Detroit Red Wings vs. Montreal Canadiens 12/21

What a shame the game had to end by 2 redeflections. The boys were playing so well too and when Motte scored on a nice feed from Ras, I definitely thought they were going to run away with it. Unfortunately, like how many of their games have gone this year, a power play for Montreal kills any momentum and leads to a blown lead. It’s just so annoying that 2 self redirects were the reason we lost that game. Talbot played so well too but there’s nothing he can do about those goals. It’s just shit luck and unfortunately ends their little run they were on. With that playoff spot running away from them, they have to forget about tonight. As Ted Lasso said, be a goldfish. That second period ended up being the killer in my opinion. Even though they were tied going into the intermission, they continue to take periods off and get outshot, when they could instead be taking control of the game and scoring goals. We’re getting goals from everyone on the team, it just comes down to eliminating silly mistakes and capitalizing on weaknesses. It’s a short rest until we come right back at the Canadiens.

I’ll keep this part short and simple. It was looking promising with the Wings up 1 late in the game, but those back to back goals ended any chance we had at hitting the spread and regulation win. It seems like when I put more than one pick on the board, there’s just no chance of hitting them both. It’s either one of them or I don’t hit either of them. I think I’m going to have to take a break from more than one pick for the time being because it feels like it’s costing the Wings games.

Prediction

After a loss the night before, we are right back at it tonight. I don’t really know where the game went wrong tonight, but we have to pick up on shooters and not allow clear shots. The last 3 goals that Montreal had were all from free shots at the point that Talbot didn’t see. All four lines played really solid offensively, with Kaner continuing his streak, Veleno getting greasy, and Motte finally getting the monkey off his back. I really do still love where the team is at and it’s only a matter of time before they get on track. I don’t know who’s going to be in goal yet, but hopefully it’s Lyon because I think he’s the key to this teams’ success. He went on an amazing run last year for the Wings, and I know he’s due to do it again this year. Talbot has been great for them, but Lyon is the fuel that burns through this team. If he is starting in goal then I love the squad to bounce back on a very busy college football Saturday.

This is a crucial game for the Wings and you know that I have to come in hot with a pick to bounce back. With our multi picks striking out all the time, I’m going to go back to what earns us units, and that is raising the unit size and going with a Wings win. The only alternative is that I’m going to pick the Wings to win in regulation again. I loved the pick tonight, but with multiple picks on the board it was never going to hit. However, with this being the only pick tonight, I absolutely love it. They should’ve won the game prior, so I have the utmost confidence that the boys will get the job done in regulation.
